The Ultimate Packing Checklist

Whether you are planning on escaping the cold weather this winter and heading off to tropical climates
or you are planning a trip for the new year, packing up will always be a big task and one which you either
love or hate. To make things easier and to make sure you don’t forget anything important this year, here
are some of our top tips for packing for your holiday.

What’s the destination?

The first thing you need to think about when you are about to pack up for a trip is where you are going.
Where is your destination and what kind of climate does it have? You wouldn’t want to be rocking up to
Finland with your sunglasses and shorts! Knowing the place you are going makes it easier to pack
things like coats and shoes and to make sure you are prepared for what comes your way. You can
always search the destination to learn more about their climate and this can be a huge help.

Checked the weather?

Even if you already know that you are going to Australia for a week and it is in the middle of summer,
you need to be aware also that the weather can change at any time. Just because it was sunny there
last week doesn’t mean it will be when you leave, make sure you take the time out to read up on the
weather forecast and this will allow you to make extra precautions for it.

Clothes

Now that you have done your research it is time that you started packing for your holiday! Of course the
first thing you’ll want to pack up is your clothes, and we have a handy list here for you:
  • Underwear (bring 2 spare)

Toiletries

When it comes to packing up your toiletries to take on holiday make sure that you don’t take a full bottle
of everything because it will take up a huge amount of space in your suitcase. To make sure that you
don’t have to worry about it, you can but small pots and squeeze some product into this for your holiday.
Here are just some of the things you can pack up:

  • Razor?

Shopping

This one will depend on whether you are staying in a hotel or a self catering catering cottage, but of
course if you do decide to go self catering there are a few things that you can buy on the first day to
make sure you have everything you need during the trip:
  • Milk
  • Butter
  • Bread
  • Eggs
  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Vinegar
  • Rice/ pasta

Have a think about easy meals you can make on the trip and you can write yourself a shopping list for
this once you have found the nearest supermarket on your first night.

Electronics

In this day and age it can seem unheard of to go on a holiday without our technology and lets face it, it’s
not something we will normally do, if you are thinking of bringing electronics with you here is a quick
reminder list for you:
  • Phones
  • Tablet
  • Phone charger
  • Tablet charger
  • Camera
  • Camera batteries

It is so important if you are going to go on holiday with your family that you remember to enjoy those
memories and a camera can be a good way to do this. Make sure you don’t forget all of your cancels
because no one wants to be stranded without power while in another part of the world! And of course,
bring a plug adaptor with you so that you can use your plugs in the first place!

Itinerary

When you go on a holiday with your friends or your family it is always a good idea to meet up
beforehand and have a look at some things you can do during the trip. There are always going to be
places you want to visit during your holiday and likely a few activities you want to try, and having an
itinerary can be handy to keep you all on schedule and make sure that you all know where to find each
other if you become separated. Make sure you bring a copy with you on paper but also take a
photograph on your phone and bring this with you too.

Equipment?

Depending on the type of holiday you decide to go on, you might have some activities planned which
involve you using equipment for it. This could be anything from rock climbing to yoga and it can be
something you already do at home or something you have always wanted to try. Make sure you
remember to pack all of the bits and bobs you need before you go so that you aren’t caught out when
you get there.

Documents

When you go on holiday you will have a lot of different pieces of paper and important documents to
bring with you. There will be things like your passport, boarding passes, tickets for transport, booking for
your hotel…the list goes on and it can be far too easy for you to forget one of these things when you are going on holiday. In the run up to your holiday keep everything in one place on the kitchen counter and
on the day you will know that everything is ready to go. As a backup plan also make sure that you scan
the images onto your phone and keep them in a safe place and this can make a big difference and
allow you to breathe a sigh of relief if you do misplace one of your documents. You’ll be able to go off
and enjoy your holiday in the right way and it will make all the difference!
