So Your Boiler Broke Down, Here’s What To Do

During the inter there can be nothing more soul destroying than the boiler breaking down. The boiler is
the one thing in the home which powers our heating system and water supply so when the boiler goes
kaput it can be a real pain in the neck. If you do become stuck one evening and need help with your
boiler, here is what you need to do.

Don’t try to DIY it

Before you even try to break out your toolkit it is important to remember that your boiler isn’t like the
other appliances in your home. You need to make sure that you don’t try to fix the issue yourself
because you are much more likely to cause harm than to solve the problem.

Call for help

Once your boiler has packed in the first thing you will want to do is call the manufacturer or a repair
company and ask them for some assistance. If you explain the issue over the phone they will likely be
able to make arrangements to fix it for you at short notice and this could be a lifesaver for you and your
family in the cold.

Use family or friends

It is a likely scenario that when your boiler breaks you will be left without heating for several days before
it can be fixed. In this time you will need to be able to shower and wash clothes and this is where your
family or friends can come in. Ask them for help and they will gladly let you use their facilities for a day or
two until you are back up and running. If not, ask a neighbour!

Wrap up warm

Now that you are patiently waiting for your boiler to be fixed it is time to wrap up in your warmest clothes
for the next few days and be comfortable. It might seem obvious to wrap up but this is important because
you don’t want to make yourself ill by staying and suffering with the cold for days on end.

Light some candles

Tealights and big jar candles are everything you could possibly need right now and they will not only
provide you with lovely smells around the house but they will keep you warm and toasty for hours. Make
sure that you light plenty of candles in the home for the next few days and it will make a big difference to
your comfort.

Install a better system

When the time comes and your boiler is due to be fixed, it might be worth asking a All Hours Plumbing and HVAC plumber whether you should replace it. Boilers, like everything else, have a lifespan, and over time they will need to be replaced with something new and more efficient. Make sure to ask about this to an expert, and although it will cost you a pretty penny a good boiler can last for over 20 years so it is a long term investment which is more than worth it.
